As the daughter of a Dutchman, I was raised on a strict diet of stroopwafels, licorice and speculaas. Not to mention the expertly crafted kroketten and appeltaarts that my kiwi mum whipped up with ease!
While Andrew & I were living in Edinburgh, Scotland, we were able to pop across to the Netherlands, visit family and experience Dutch market fare made fresh. (Quite the novelty after growing up in New Zealand where stroopwafels only came in packets that never seemed to expire!)
And so along came Montfoort. With a simple yet exciting mission: To showcase the best of sweet dutch street food using honest, fresh ingredients and traditional methods, while keeping it inventive and fun.
Every weekend you'll find us at your local Wellington markets with something delicious on offer.

Dutch streetfood is traditionally very simple, but who are we kidding? Everybody loves a little something extra. So we'll always have our famous salted caramel sauce, seasonal jams or lemon curd to top your sweet treat with.
All Montfoort products are made from scratch, by us, with proper ingredients.

Eloise & Andrew
The Montfoort Stroopwafel is the result of many trial batches and endless taste tests. Giving you a classic, Dutch biscuit filled with a gooey spiced caramel - and a few secret spices for good measure!
We make these fresh to order at the markets, or you can pick up a pack for that hot cuppa below. Each pack contains 5 stroopwafels.
Best described as puffy, bite-sized pancakes, made even more lekker using my lovely Tante (Aunty) Greet's recipe. Always served with lashings of butter and powdered sugar. Perfect topped with a dollop of seasonal fruit compote or our famous salted caramel.
Served at our local markets and fairs all summer long then every second week over winter.
Dutch Donuts made with a fresh yeast dough, filled with poached apples and cinnamon soaked raisins. Always served piping hot, sprinkled with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. A Wellington favourite when it's cold outside! If you're lucky, we'll have custard cream and strawberry dippers to take your donuts to the the next level!
Served every second week over winter at the Harbourside Market. You can also find our Oliebollen flying out the window at the Beervana Festival in August.
MONTFOORT APPLE PIE
A delectable filling of cinnamon soaked raisins and Granny Smith apples are encased in a thick, golden buttery crust. Best served with a generous dollop of fresh vanilla cream.
Find them freshly baked at the caravan at the weekly Harbourside Market. Individual Pies are the size of a Texas muffin. Some customers have been known to share these, and come back the next week for two. Learn from their mistakes.
